This is the earliest known and recorded version of the tale of romeo and Juliet.
1530 - Giulietta e Romeo
Adaptation by Luigi da Porto. This version gives the story most of its modern traits like the names romeo, Juliet, Montague and Capulet; as well as the setting of Verona.
1554 - Giulietta e Romeo
Adaptation by Matteo Bandello.
1562 - The Tragical History of Romeus and Juliet
A narrative poem written by Arthur Brooke and published in 1562. It is reported to be the main source for William Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet.
1597 - Romeo and Juliet
Dramatization for the theater of the story by William Shakespeare. This is by far the most popular and recognized interpretation of the tale of Romeo and Juliet. All modern versions of Romeo and Juliet are based from this play.
